Columbia Dental & Oral Surgery
New York NY

This 4,000 square foot project involved the demolition and renovation of existing spaces for conversion into new dental and oral surgery suites. This particular effort was the last of a three-phase renovation with two of the three phases being completed by Caldwell & Walsh. It required the demolition and re-building of existing periodontal and endodontic instructional and patient treatment areas on the 9th floor of The Vanderbilt Clinic. The adjacent orthodontic lab, which was Phase 2, had to remain open to students and patients. Phase 3 was turned over for use in sections as they were completed.

The scope of work included corrugated metal wall panels, blue glass, extensive millwork throughout, and rework of existing HVAC to support air, gas, and water at all stations. The work also included construction of individual treatment bays with state-of-the-art dental chairs and x-ray equipment with under-floor utility feeds and x-ray safe accordion glass doors enclosing each work station. New treatment chairs were wired with high-speed internet to provide chair mounted monitors for students and patients to use in treatment bays. Substantial quantities of cherry millwork lined work stations and metal and glass screen walls separated corridor areas. A sloping metal pan ceiling integrated indirect lighting.
