Caldwell & Walsh served as Construction Manager for this multi-phased project focused on upgrades and repairs throughout Avery Architectural and Fire Arts Library and the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. This library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and its holdings consist of more than 240,000 books and periodicals on architecture, urban planning, art history, and historic preservation. In addition, the library has more than 300,000 original architectural drawings, prints, and archives.
Due of the age of the building, all of the exterior, interior and systems required upgrading, replacement, or repair while the building was in use. The scope of work called for the following: replacement of wood windows, new administrative offices and conference center for the School of Architecture, new machine rooms converting a steam system to a four pipe hot and chilled water system, upgrades to the fire alarm system, digital HVAC controls, and new finishes.
