Lasdon House

The Jacob S. Lasdon House is a fully occupied 15-story, 1970s era high rise apartment building utilized by graduate and postdoctoral students. This project converted 4 floors of dormitory space encompassing 47,000 square feet of computational labs and support space for clinical practices.

One of the notable aspects of this project was the creation of an open stair vestibule surrounded by glass walls and rails, extending through 4 floors of the space. This required off-site fabrication of custom steel. Open riser staircases were boomed and set into the building in complete sections.

This project has many other unique features. A custom stainless steel terrace entrance canopy with structural glass, custom interior wood slat ceilings, and feature walls in the vestibule and corridor areas create unique aesthetics. Open ceilings with exposed mechanical, electrical and piping adorn the new offices and conference rooms, as well as extensive millwork and custom stainless steel trim throughout.
All 15 floors of the building received new fire alarm systems including new devices and a fire department call system. The electrical switchgear and service equipment were replaced with new. As construction manager, Caldwell & Walsh was responsible for managing all aspects of the work, turning over the finished space within 24 months.
